Restorative Dentistry

Example of a dental filling

Dental fillings, also known as composite restorations, are a standard choice for restoring teeth affected by cavities, cracks, or minor damage. At Bridge Street Family Dental, we specialize in tooth-colored fillings. Tooth-colored fillings are made from a durable resin material that chemically bonds to the tooth. The tooth-colored filling is carefully matched to the natural shade of your teeth, making them aesthetically pleasing.

The steps for a tooth-colored filling procedure:

Examination:

Decay is diagnosed by a visual exam and x-rays.

Preparation:

The decay or damaged portion of the tooth is removed. The area is cleaned to ensure no bacteria or debris remains. Once the tooth is cleaned, the composite resin is applied in layers. Initially the resin composite is a putty which is then hardened using a special curing light.

Shaping and Polishing:

The filling is shaped to the contours of the tooth’s natural form and function. It’s polished for a smooth finish.

Final adjustments:

Dr. Blessing will check your bite to make sure that the filling will not interfere when chewing.

Benefits of tooth-colored fillings are natural appearance, durability, versatility and preservation of tooth structure. Tooth-colored fillings are a great choice for both front and back teeth.
