Complete & Partial Dentures

Dentures

Dental dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues, they offer patients who have experienced tooth loss a natural-looking smile that lasts.

There are several types of dental dentures:

Complete Dentures:

These replace all teeth in the upper or lower jaw. These dentures are taken in out the mouth for cleaning and are often affordable.

  • Conventional: are placed after all teeth are removed and the gums have healed after several weeks.
  • Immediate: are placed immediately after tooth removal. Immediate dentures are fabricated before tooth removal.
  • Implant Supported Denture: These dentures are placed when all the teeth are removed, and dental implants are placed. The denture is then anchored to the dental implants for added stability and a more natural feel.

Partial Dentures:

Used when some natural teeth remain. The remaining teeth must be sturdy and healthy to support the partial denture and keep it firmly in place. Partial dentures can be taken out of the mouth for cleaning and are often affordable and last for years.

The steps for a denture procedure:

Dr. Blessing will evaluate the mouth with a visual exam and x-rays. The type of denture will treatment planned, and impressions taken. Once impressions are taken a wax bite is created to establish a vertical dimension and proper jaw position. The patient will then have a ‘try-in’ appointment where the denture (which is in wax) is placed in the mouth to assure proper fit, shape and color. If the patient is happy the denture is returned to the lab for final processing. The patient’s next appointment will be the delivery of the denture with minor adjustments.

Follow-Up Appointments will be needed with Dr. Blessing to monitor how the dentures settle and to make necessary adjustments if needed. Dr. Blessing will also advise you on care and maintenance.

Partial dentures follow a similar process.
